EV Star

GreenPower Motor Company manufactures a complete range of heavy- and medium-duty electric vehicles, which include lower-floor and high-floor models. The EV Star Cab & Chassis is their flagship vehicle, and can be adapted to suit a wide range of applications. The platform's design is based on a simple paper that allows for optimal placement of the battery and a lower center-of-gravity. This results in higher payload/range ratios.

The EV Star REEFERX was developed for mid-to-last mile refrigerated deliveries as well as catering applications. The refrigerated truck's class 4 configuration's one wall structure in the interior and higher insulation than traditional trucks allows for seamless sanitation, better temperature control and a longer life. The EV Star REEFERX delivers superior cargo capacity and a top payload to range ratio for zero-emission passenger and cargo transportation.

GreenPower has joined forces with Perrone Robotics to up-fit the EV Star with their TONY (To Navigate You) autonomous vehicle system. This will allow fleets to seamlessly move to autonomous vehicles. The AV Star can also be wirelessly charging up to 75 kW.

We were able to test drive the EV9 on an unpaved highway for several hours, and found it easy to drive and comfortable to drive for long distances. The ride is smooth over ruts and bumps, while the EV9 does a great job of reducing road noise and wind on the highway. The acceleration is quite quick and the vehicle has adjustable regenerative brakes that allow "one pedal driving" by simply lifting the accelerator.

The EV9 offers a great range and can be charged in just three hours or less at home, or using any commercial charger. Drivers can select between two modes of operation that include eco mode and sports mode. Eco mode prioritizes torque as well as cruise control and handling, while sport mode increases speed. Both are a lot of fun to drive and provide an experience unlike any other for those who have not driven an electric vehicle before.

In addition to the EV9, GreenPower has several other e-vehicles available, such as a multi-purpose, all-electric mini bus, called the EV Star. The EV Star is ADA compliant and can be utilized as an executive shuttle, micro-transit, transit vanpool, bus, or a paratransit vehicle.

GreenPower produces approximately 10 EV Star busses a month for Jacksonville Transit Authority. The Jacksonville Transit Authority is replacing their older diesel vehicles fleet with 100 all-electric cars. With the Biden Administration planning to electrify school buses across the country, GreenPower plans on ramping production to meet demand. Their EV Star bus is the first of its kind to be tested by Altoona and FMVSS-certified, Buy America compliant and ADA certified. This makes them eligible for federal transit grants. Keep an eye on us when we follow the AV Star on its demonstration tour later this year. We will share more details on this innovative EV!
